Metropolis

<Metropolis>, was theatrically released in Japan in June, 2001. It is a blockbuster animation feature to commemorate Tezuka Osamu, the creator of 'Atom' and the father of Japanimation. Kaisuhiro Otomo who directed 'Akira' modified Osamu's original script and Rintaro top-ranked directors directed Metropolis. This masterpiece took five years to complete.

During the fall 2000, DR MOVIE participated in digital filming and completed more than one third of the production. Digital shooting for Japanese theatrical feature was the first attempt in DR since only coloring had done digitally up until then in Korea.

To make things even more difficult, the film demanded 3D digital effects and numerous crowd scenes. Maruyama, a producer and representative of Mad house, confessed later, saying requesting a digital shooting itself was an impossible order. By surpassing everyone's expectation, DR successfully completed the work and its advanced digital techniques became famous in Japan.
As for the DR animators, 'Metropolis' was difficult one because they had to draw more than 40% in-between animations.
